Can aluminium oxide replace pomegranate sand in sandblasting industry?
Pomegranate sand is currently commonly used as water cutting abrasive, also known as water cutting sand. But from the point of view of hardness and sharpness, the performance is better than pomegranate sand and aluminium oxide. But why not use pomegranate sand instead of aluminium oxide for water cutting sand?
From the abrasive point of view, aluminium oxide and pomegranate sand are the same polyhedral structure, sharp and hard. As water cutting abrasives, need to consider performance, overall price, especially the cost of consumable sand pipe and sand, etc.
aluminium oxide hardness is greater than garnet, but in the water cutting industry, high hardness, cutting easy to cause damage or scratches to items. Secondly, the hardness is high, and the wear of water knife sand pipe is greater than that of pomegranate sand. With pomegranate sand water sand tube can be used for 200h, with aluminium oxide sand tube may be less than 150h or even lower. Another important reason is that aluminium oxide is higher than pomegranate sand.
Although aluminium oxide can not be used in water cutting, but in other sandblasting fields, there are many applications, many industrial fields of sandblasting processing are inseparable from the existence of aluminium oxide.
